Not every taxi will take a dog, and finding out at the kerb is the worst way to learn. When you book a pet friendly taxi through us, we ask about your pet first and only pass the job to a driver who has said yes. You know before the car arrives that your dog, cat or rabbit is expected.
Who uses a pet friendly taxi in Hounslow?
Most of our pet journeys are short and practical. Owners book us for:
- Vet appointments, including urgent visits when your own car is not available.
- Drop-offs and collections at kennels, catteries and dog sitters.
- Grooming appointments, so a freshly washed dog does not have to walk home in the rain.
- Moving house with pets, when the removal van cannot take them.
- Walks further afield, such as Osterley Park, Bedfont Lakes Country Park or Hounslow Heath.
Many Hounslow households also travel with pets to and from family elsewhere in the UK. A long-distance pet journey is fine; just tell us the destination and how often your dog will need a break.
What to tell us when you book
The more we know, the better the match. When you call or book online, add a note with:
- The type and size of animal, for example "one large Labrador" or "one cat in a carrier".
- Whether your pet travels on the floor, on a seat or in a crate.
- Any anxiety, travel sickness or health issues the driver should know about.
- Whether you need extra space for a crate, a pet bed or a pushchair.
Large dogs or more than one pet usually travel more comfortably in an estate or an MPV. Our 6 seater taxi and 7 seater taxi pages explain the larger vehicles.
Keeping the car clean and your pet calm
Seat covers or a blanket are available on request, and you are welcome to bring your pet's own blanket. Cats, rabbits and other small animals should travel in a secure carrier. Dogs should be on a lead or in a crate. Drivers can open a window slightly or adjust the air conditioning to keep the cabin comfortable.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs are different. Under the Equality Act 2010, licensed taxi and private hire drivers must carry assistance dogs at no extra charge unless they hold a valid medical exemption. You do not need to book a pet friendly car for an assistance dog, but telling us helps the driver prepare.
Pets and airport journeys
Pets flying in or out of the UK usually travel as cargo through the Heathrow Animal Reception Centre rather than through the passenger terminals. If you are dropping off or collecting a pet there, give us the exact address and the time you have been given by your pet shipping agent. For passenger trips, see our Heathrow taxi from Hounslow page.
Fares are fixed when you book. If your pet needs extra cleaning after the journey, the operator may charge for it; ask us about this when you book so there are no surprises.
Local routes we often cover
Pet trips are mostly short hops: Hounslow Central to a vet on the Bath Road, Feltham to a kennel near Bedfont, or Isleworth to a groomer in Twickenham. Drivers know where they can stop safely outside each address and will help lift a crate in or out. If you live a little further out, our areas we cover page lists the towns we serve every day.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an extra charge for travelling with a dog?
Your fare is fixed when you book. Ask us about any pet supplement or cleaning charge at the time of booking so the price you agree is the price you pay.
Can I take my cat in a taxi?
Yes, as long as your cat travels in a secure carrier. Mention it when you book so the driver knows to expect it.
Will a driver refuse my assistance dog?
Licensed drivers must carry assistance dogs at no extra cost unless they have a medical exemption certificate. Let us know when you book and we will make sure the driver is prepared.
Can I book a pet taxi to the vet at night?
Bookings are taken 24/7. For an urgent vet visit call 020 3740 6490 and we will look for the nearest available pet friendly driver.
Which car is best for a large dog?
An estate or an MPV gives a large dog room to lie down. Tell us your dog’s size and whether it travels in a crate.
