School runs are some of the most important journeys we arrange. Parents trust us with their children, and they need a driver who is reliable, patient and on time every single day. If that sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.
What the work involves
School run drivers carry out regular morning and afternoon journeys during term time. A typical day might look like this:
- A morning run between about 7:30 and 9:00, collecting one or more children from home and dropping them at school.
- An afternoon run between about 14:45 and 16:30, collecting from school, after-school clubs or nursery.
- Occasional one-off journeys for school trips, sports fixtures and exam days.
Routes are mostly local, within Hounslow, Isleworth, Heston, Feltham, Hanworth, Whitton and Twickenham. Many drivers fit school runs around airport and local work in the middle of the day.
What we are looking for
To be considered for school run work you will need:
- A valid private hire (PHV) driver licence issued by Transport for London or another licensing authority.
- A licensed vehicle with private hire insurance that covers hire and reward, or access to one through a licensed operator.
- An enhanced DBS check, which forms part of PHV licensing.
- The right to work in the UK.
- A clean, well-kept vehicle and a calm, safe driving style.
- Good local knowledge of Hounslow's roads and school traffic.
MPV drivers are especially welcome, as many school runs carry siblings or share between families. Drivers who can fit child seats and booster seats correctly are a big advantage.
Safeguarding comes first
Every driver must follow the handover and collection arrangements agreed with the parent or guardian, keep communication professional and report any concerns straight away. If a school or a parent has particular requirements, we explain them before your first run.
Why drive school runs?
- Regular, predictable work during term time.
- Short, local journeys with less time sitting in central London traffic.
- A chance to build a relationship with families in your community.

A typical week
Many school run drivers work a regular pattern. A morning run of 30 to 60 minutes, a gap in the middle of the day for other bookings or personal time, then an afternoon run of a similar length. Some families need runs every day, others only on certain days because of shared custody, clubs or part-time work. We match runs to drivers based on location and availability, so you are not crossing the borough twice a day.
Supporting children with additional needs
Some school runs are for children with special educational needs. If you have experience supporting children with SEN, or relevant training, please mention it when you apply. Patience, clear communication and calm driving matter most on these runs.
Runs often use larger vehicles, so drivers with a 6 seater or 7 seater are in particular demand. You can see the towns where most runs take place on our areas we cover page.
